Six years ago today we went on a pretty sweet op. We visited an abandoned village, drew fire by our mere presence, and returned the favor. There was lots of air support, including A-10s (my favorite), and many explosions. There were no friendly casualties. We ran low on bad guys and ammunition at roughly the same time, so we went back to the FOB, where some officer had somehow arranged for turkey, stuffing, and all of the trimmings (minus beer) to be waiting for us.
It was definitely the most exciting Thanksgiving I’ve ever had. That said, I’m thankful today for boring ones with my family.
